Busy Times and Biscuit Bells

Hello Gang, welcome to my second blog.

The past couple of months have been a busy time - balancing the organisation of Freshers’ Fortnight, the day-to-day jobs for our clubs and societies and also getting cracking on some of the longer term projects I am planning for the coming year.

Freshers’ Fortnight is once again looking to be the BEST EVER, with the Infamous Brightonian Nights Pub Crawl, Fresher Fest and The UK’s Biggest Freshers’ Ball, to name just a few of the things we have planned.

I have also been busy working closely with the University in the development of our new School Societies starting this year. This is an exciting new opportunity allowing you to run societies in your schools, improving your whole academic experience. Whether it’s Summer Balls, debates, trips…you name it, and we will help you make it happen for your societies.

Along with the lovely Officers at Brighton University SU, we are looking into an exciting new live act competition: Uni Unsigned. If you are a singer, song-writer, rapper or band, watch this space for an opportunity you will struggle to ignore. There are great opportunities in stall for the winners.

On top of all this, we are looking to create a Society Festival at the end of the Spring Term. This will be a chance for all of our societies to showcase what they do both on campus and in town as part of a week-long fringe programme. Let me know if your society would be interested in this by emailing activities@ussu.sussex.ac.uk!

If you are in a committee for a club or society, then I look forward to seeing you at our Activities Conference on the 23rd July where you can find out about exciting opportunities for your club/society and meet committee members. SIGN UP HERE:

Hello there!

15th July 2009

I am Scott and I am the new Activities Officer for the Students Union! Welcome to my weekly blog where I will be chatting about the things I have been up to during the past week.

I have been in the office for 2 weeks now and already things are go-go-go!

The main thing on the cards at the moment is the preparation for this year’s Fresher’s Ball. It is set to be bigger, better and more impressive than ever before, with top acts such as Zane Lowe, Pendulum and Kissy Sell Out.

Alongside this, I have been playing a large part in reviewing the current sponsorship deals held by our sport clubs and clubs and bars in town, with the intention of maybe searching for one unified sponsor for USSU sport (?). So, if anyone has lots of money they would like to give to our sport clubs, gimme a bell ;)

If you have any issues, comments or suggestions about sports, societies or volunteering at Sussex, or you just want to have a chat due to the lack of interesting content on the telly, email me at activities@ussu.sussex.ac.uk

In summary, it is going well, and the 70’s power ballads played in the Activities Centre are slowly growing on me!

’til next week,

Scott

P.S. Jane should not have one Celebrity Master Chef
